A DROITWICH man has had his conviction for driving without insurance quashed by Worcester magistrates.

Matthew Jarvis successfully argued he had been unaware of court proceedings when he was convicted in his absence of driving without insurance.

The 46-year-old appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday (March 30) and his application to reopen the case was allowed by magistrates after Jarvis said he "definitely had not had" a letter informing him of previous proceedings.

Harris Markou, chairman of the magistrates bench, confirmed his conviction and sentence would be set aside, to which the defendant replied "brilliant".

Jarvis told the court he was pleading not guilty to a charge of driving a Skoda on the A38 in Droitwich on December 19, 2020, but was guilty of using the vehicle without a valid MOT certificate on the same occasion.

Jarvis, of Charland Court, said he would argue his employer covered his insurance on that date, and said he could prove this by bringing the relevant documents to a trial.

The chairman told Jarvis he should return to the court for his trial at 2pm on June 1.
