A VACANT city centre unit is set to be converted into a music venue that will give residents the chance to buy records in the city.

Spin The Black (STB) is marketing itself as "Worcester's only vinyl store and coffee house", and has said it now has a venue secured.

In a post on its Facebook page STB said: "We finally have a home, 19 to 21 Pump Street.

"With three floors, we'll be opening the ground floor initially with seating for 20-30.

"An initial stock of around 600 records, so there'll be plenty to nose through, and we are looking at turning upstairs into a small cinema for events, let us know if that's something Worcester would like and we'll make it happen."

When will Worcester's new record store open?

STB has revealed that work is progressing to get the unit, previously the EE mobile phone shop, ready for a summer opening.

STB said: "Long nights ahead to get this beautiful building ship-shape, but we hope to get her open for the end of May/ start of June.

"Can't wait to give Worcester a chilled out music venue where you can grab a coffee, a ridiculously great slice of cake, settle back in a comfy armchair and feel the warm sound waves of vinyl wash over you."

STB said it also wants to build a community of music and movie lovers, which would also have an input into where the owners would take the business in the future.

Worcester News:

When the store opens it will see the return of a dedicated shop selling physical music in city centre for the first time in two years, since the closure of Rise in 2018, and HMV in 2020. The Market Hall Records stall in The Shambles, and That Record Shop in The Tything, have been providing music to buy.

Music lovers shared their joy at the news on the STB post.

Fiona Pack said: "Will 100 per cent be there sounds amazing and we need a vinyl shop in Worcester."

Pat Gething added: "Best of luck - hope it is a great success. Sounds like something Worcester really needs."
