THE mystery of a reported plane crash in a Worcestershire field that sparked a massive emergency response has been solved.

Police have confirmed that a small aircraft did land in a field which led to reports of a crash in Pershore.

Reports on social media suggested that a plane was seen to be performing stunts and almost clipped a chimney which then seemed to lose control.

Worried neighbours called emergency services fearing the plane had crashed in a field off Brickyard Lane near Drakes Broughton at just before 4pm.

Fire crews, the ambulance service and police responded to the report, however, no evidence of a crash site or a plane could be found on the field.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police were called just after 3.50pm on Sunday, April 3 following a report from a member of the public of a plane crash in Pershore.

"Officers attended, along with the fire service and ambulance service.

"Thorough searches of the area were undertaken and no aircraft in distress was located.

"Further investigations show that a small aircraft landed safely on a nearby airfield at around the time of the report.

"We believe that the report was made with good intent."
