NEW pictures show the progress of a major new road scheme near Upton Upon Severn.

Worcestershire County Council is replacing the staggered crossroads with a new roundabout, designed to improve traffic into and out of the town.

Now, new pictures shared by the council on Twitter shows how the approaches to the roundabout are taking shape.

Kerb installation has also been completed across the site, along with new fresh and wastewater drainage pipes.

Over the next six to eight weeks, works will take place to prepare the areas of the site that tie-in with the existing carriageway.

From April 11 to 15, between 8pm and 6am, the western A4104 will be closed at its junction with the A38 (between A38 and Upton-upon-Severn) to undertake and complete drainage works.

From April 11 for approximately five weeks, the tie-in area will be prepared between the existing A38 carriageway and the newly constructed arm of the roundabout.

The works require two-way lights, which will be in operation 24hrs a day during this period of the works.

From April 12 for approximately 6 weeks, the tie-in area will be prepared between the existing A4104 west and the newly constructed arm of the roundabout.

The works require two-way lights, which will be in operation 24-hours a day during this period of the works.

Following on from the completion of these works, towards the end of May, four-way lights will be installed on the A38/A4104 junction, to allow the safe removal of the remaining street furniture and splitter islands, along with the remaining tie-in works to the other new arms.

Concerns were first raised about the high levels of traffic on the busy junction by West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin in 2015 and several tests were eventually carried out by the council in 2018.

The current configuration of the road means long queues as traffic tries to join and cross from the Upton and Defford directions at peak times during the day, during the busy summer festival period and when local events are on.

The work has been funded by Worcestershire County Council and the Department for Transport in a multi-million pound improvement scheme.
