THE last couple of years have a real test for everyone, and for some more than others, it has put serious strain on their mental health.

So it’s no wonder that many of us have turned to new hobbies and crafts or other ways to take our minds off the seemingly endless problems that have been dominating our lives.

For some people, those hobbies have remained just that but others have taken the plunge and used the opportunity to turn their skills into a fully fledged business.

Clare Knighton has done just that with her Northwick-based enterprise, Art by Clare.

Prior to launching as a business only a month or so ago, it had been a hobby for Clare, who produces and sells a mix of watercolour and ink paintings, acrylic art and some craft items including self-designed mugs and cards.

Clare said: “I started art and crafts to help my mental health. I also have ADHD so I can find concentration hard, but creativity is my superpower!

“I’m pretty good at writing poetry too. I believe art should be affordable and I do some groups to introduce art to others so they can feel the magic I do!”

She is most proud so far of having her Malvern acrylic painting feature in the Worcester21 exhibition at the University of Worcester’s Art House in Castle Street.

And it’s not all about the money, either – others can benefit from work we do, including nature’s creatures.

Clare was once asked to fix a huge terracotta pot for a lady.

“I did it slowly, and for free – but she paid me some money anyway – which I gave to a local owl rescue charity and hedgehog charity.”
