As we previously reported new plans have been unveiled to bring an historic county hotel back to life.

Chateau Impney, near Droitwich, closed when the pandemic hit back in 2020, and has remained closed ever since.

Now though, plans are in the works to restore it, with a substantial redevelopment submitted to Wychavon District Council.

Here we take a look back at the lengthy wait for news on the iconic site.

April 2020:

With the pandemic hitting and the country going into lockdown, hotels are forced to close.

On the gates of Chateau Impney, a notice goes up informing residents the historic venue would close.

It said: "With huge sadness, these circumstances have led us to take the most difficult decision to permanently close the Chateau Impney Hotel and Exhibition Centre, a decision which has not been taken lightly.

"Thank you to our amazing team who have dedicated themselves with such passion for so long."

More than a year after the hotel closed, no word had been received on what the future would hold.

A planning application sent to Wychavon DC asked for permission for additional security gates to help keep the site secured.

May 2021

Formal plans are submitted by the Greyfort Estate to renovate the site, turning it back into a hotel and demolishing some of the previous extensions built there.

At the time, a consultation is carried out with an overwhelmingly positive public response.

Greyfort publishes an update announcing its intentions for the site.

Included in the plans are more than 120 new homes, to replace some of the demolished buildings.

160 responses were received, with no negative responses.

The plan said: "The redevelopment of no more than 200 residential dwellings and commercial premises would be mainly outside of the original parkland and further away from Impney Hall, providing the opportunity for the hall to breathe and benefit from taking a step closer to its originally intended setting."
