CUSTOMERS at a city centre pub donated hundreds of Easter eggs to donate to children's charities.

Staff at The Old Greyhound in New Street has managed to collect over 200 chocolate eggs over two weeks and have been overwhelmed by people's generosity.

The pub's manager, Shane Griffin, said: "We thought that we would only get a couple of eggs but we have a great bunch of regulars.

"We have had around 200 eggs donated so far.

"We are going to drop the eggs off over the next few days at the children's ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Acorns Children's Hospice.

"We have also messaged New Hope and asked some customers who are foster carers if they would like to take some back to the children they care for."

Mr Griffin was inspired to donate some Easter eggs after seeing all of the donations collected for those in Ukraine.

He wanted to do something kind for those close to home as well.

Mr Griffin was thrilled with the number of donations and did not expect the idea to go so well.

He added: "I would like to say a big thank you to all of our customers and locals for getting into the community spirit of the donations.

"We just thought we would give it a try and we started off by taking £5 and going to get some Easter eggs.

"We went round the pub and asked some of the regulars for £2 each to spend on eggs so we ended up with 20 on the first day.

"People saw the eggs coming in and then donated.

"One guy brought 20 eggs in one bag, it's a great sense of community spirit."

The Old Greyhound, in Reindeer Court, will be closing at a later date for about three weeks to be refurbished.

Photographs show the stacks of Easter eggs that have been donated to The Old Greyhound to be passed on to children who need them.
