THE funeral date has been set for an “amazing” Redditch United midfielder who tragically died last month.
Thomas Rankin aged 26 died on Sunday, March 27 just 24 hours after the Reds’ match against AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
The funeral announcement was made by Redditch Untied.
A service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, April 25 at Redditch Crematorium followed by a wake at Redditch United Football Club.
In a statement released by the club, it is emphasised that “all are welcome to pay tribute”.
It reads: “The Rankin family have stressed that all are welcome to come to the Redditch crematorium as well as the wake afterwards that will be hosted at Redditch United Football Club.”
Thomas had played for the Reds for the past three seasons and had also played at Bromsgrove Sporting during his career.
Following the announcement of his death, David Faulkner, manager of Redditch United posted on Facebook that the Reds “lost a member of the family”.
He wrote: “An amazing young man from an amazing family. I’m devastated.”
Due to the limited space inside the chapel, additional screens and speakers will; be used for those who cannot make it into the chapel.
Both the 1891 Lounge and outside bars will be open at the Trico stadium upon arrival due to the expected numbers.
The Directors Room will be reserved for the Rankin family.
Flowers are welcome however donations are preferred that will be collected at both the Crematorium and back at Redditch United for the Kaleidoscope Group supporting mental health and well-being.
