Police are investigating after a teenager was assaulted on his way home from school.

Jack Finch, 13, was targeted by a group of around 20 after leaving his high school, Nunnery Wood, on Wednesday.

A video recorded at the time shows Jack being swung around by another pupil, landing on the floor.

He was left with a large scrape across his waist and injuries to his face after the attack outside of a primary school while on his way home.

Now, West Mercia Police has confirmed they are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Police were called just before 3.30pm on April 27 about a group of teenagers behaving in an unsocial manner outside Nunnery Wood Primary School, Prestwich Avenue.

“Officers attended and have since spoken to the school, the boy who was assaulted and his family.

“Investigations are continuing and phone footage being reviewed.”

They also confirmed that extra police presence was put in place on Thursday and that an officer would again be in attendance today, Friday April 29.

However, Jack’s parents are still adamant they will not be sending their son back to the school.

Dad Duncan Finch said: “We have spoken to the police countless times before and they say they’ve said they can’t do much about it so we will have to see what happens this time.

“We’re not going to send him back to that school, we are going to try and find him a new one.”

Mr Finch said they are heading to the school later today to speak to staff about the attack.

Tom Williams, the acting headteacher at Nunnery Wood, said they are investigating the incident.

“We are aware of the incident and of the allegations that have been made.

“The school is following its procedures to ensure that both the incident and allegations are investigated in a thorough and impartial way.

“As a school, our priority is for the wellbeing and safety of our students.

“At this stage, we do not believe that commenting on the allegations made to you will benefit any of the students involved since we have not yet established the actions of all parties in what is a highly complex and sensitive situation.”

West Mercia Police have also confirmed they are investigating an incident earlier this year where Jack is alleged to have been pushed in front of an oncoming bus by another pupil.
