A POPULAR Worcestershire festival has seen hundreds of visitors in attendance today.

The Upton Upon Severn Folk Festival 2022 is well underway, with hundreds of guests in attendance for a weekend of folk entertainment.

The high street is full of incredible costumes, artisan market stalls and plenty of places to gran a coll refreshing drink or ice cream.

The festival features incredible dance performances and traditional style folk music. music and dance outfits descend on the town

Running until May 2, the festival features concerts, ceilidhs, competitions, workshops, displays and a host of established names from the world of folk.

Venues throughout the town are taking part including the Star, the Rugby Club, The King's Head, Bar 7, the Memorial Hall, the Baptist Church and others.

We spoke to members of the Plum Jerkum, mixed Morris side of Warwick, which were performing at the festival.

The group said: "We are named after a cider from Worcestershire named after plums. 

"This is the first festival of the year here in Upton and people around the town and the shops seem so pleased to see us back.

"There are lots of smiles around and the weather is lovely, it's a great event."

The town also was full of plenty of artisan shops selling jewellery, clothing and food.

Mandy Bland, who co-owns the Karma Gear stall, said: "We are not local but we absolutely love it here.

"Upton is known for festivals across the season and we travel several times.

The town loves it and it brings great business in to the area."

Friday

Bryony Griffith and Alice Jones, Doug Eunson and Sarah Matthews Duo, Jackie Oates with Mike Cosgrave, Jim Mageean and Graeme Knights, Moirai.

Monday – Bank Holiday Special

Bryony Griffith and Alice Jones, Moirai presents Framed-the Story of Alice Weldon, Ian Bruce, John Tams and Narthen.

On the Sunday of the festival, the procession will make its way through the town led by Ledbury Morris and supported by morris outfits from around the country.

The festival, which was set up more than 30 years ago, is returning to the town after a two-year break caused by the pandemic.

Motorists on the way to and from Upton this weekend are being warned of roadworks and possible closures causing delays.

The ongoing work at the junction of the A38 and A4104 means drivers could expect delays as revellers travel to the town.

Motorists have also been warned of certain road closures in the town centre.

Church Street, High Street, Old Street, Dunns Lane, Old Welland Road and Waterside are all expected to close during the festival.
