Friends of a family with two critically ill children have been raising funds to send them on a dream holiday before it’s too late.

Brothers Rocky and Bentley Smith both suffer from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic condition that causes severe mobility and breathing issues.

The boys, aged two and one, require 24-hour care and are constantly in and out of hospital.

Children with SMA have a life expectancy of just two, so mum Justine and dad Rocky Snr are hoping to take Rocky, Bentley and their sister Lexie to Disneyland while they still can.

Justine said it would mean “everything” to make some memories together as a family.

But the cost of getting travel insurance for the two boys alone has left the family relying on the generosity of others to make their dreams come true.

Justine said the cheapest quote she’s had from the few insurance companies willing to cover Rocky and Bentley was £1,700 each. “We just don’t have that kind of money,” she said.

A couple of brave souls even had their chests waxed for the cause last Sunday (April 1), while a raffle and other fundraising events also took place - raising a total of £2,492.16.

Kayti Sartain, CEO of Dragon Star Security, donated £1,000 from the company after hearing about the family’s struggle.

She will also be doing a 10km walk with her son Kasey Dean Afflick and his friend.
