A WORCESTER pharmacy has stepped in and made an appeal to women affected by the recent Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) shortage.

The lack of HRT products has become a national crisis, with the government saying earlier this week that women will only be able to get three months of products such as Oestrogel, Ovestin cream and some Premique tablets.

The government says the temporary measure will help ensure more women can access the medication amidst shortages.

Commenting on the shortage, the Twitter account for the Kitson's Pharmacy in Broad Street, wrote: "As you may be aware, there are currently national shortages affecting pharmacies across the UK.

Worcester News:

"Please get in contact with us if you are struggling to obtain any medications.

"Contact us on 01905 22861 and we can advise availability. #pharmacy."

We previously spoke to Diane Porterfield Bourne, who runs face-to-face and virtual menopause clinics through Worcestershire company Bourne2Care, who said the situation is the "worst it has ever been".

The 51-year-old, who runs clinics in Worcester, told us: "There have been fluctuations (in supplies) for months and years, but it is starting to get really crucially now.

Worcester News:

"I'm running out of options what I can prescribe.

"It's got to the point women who I don't know and have never seen before, are phoning me in a panic about what to do."

Some drug providers have highlighted a surge in demand for HRT drugs as a result of the “Davina effect” - the screening of the Channel 4 documentary Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause.
