VALUABLE car parts from two major vehicle manufacturers are being targeted by thieves in Worcestershire.

Catalytic converters from older Honda Jazz and CRV models are being targeted, as well as older Toyota Prius vehicles.

West Mercia Police have shared how Honda and Toyota vehicle owners can help protect their vehicles against thieves.

Some of this advice includes parking in locked garages if possible, parking in well-lit areas close to your property and to consider installing a car alarm that activates if your vehicle is lifted or tilted.

CCTV, high visibility signage and Smartwater are all also recommended. Smartwater acts as a marking system that can be detected under ultraviolet black light.

A catalytic converter reduces harmful pollutants by taking the gases and converting them into water vapour and less harmful gases via a series of chemical reactions.

All petrol cars manufactured since 1993 must have a catalytic converter fitted to the exhaust.

If your catalytic converter is stolen, you will know because your vehicle’s engine will sound different.

If you suspect your catalytic converter has been stolen or have any information about a crime involving catalytic converters, you can report it to West Mercia Police by calling 101 or through the website.
