MORE than £1,000 has been raised for city stab victim Mateusz Gawronski who remains in a coma.

Mr Gawronski, from Rose Avenue, Tolladine, was visiting Bielawa in Poland when he was attacked by three men who attempted to steal his phone and money.

Mr Gawronski ran away from the attackers and managed to keep hold of his possessions.

But the 28-year-old, known as Mati, was later stabbed three times in a separate incident, leaving him in a critical condition.

The construction site worker is fighting for his life at a hospital in Wrocław City.

One man is in custody and police are hunting three men in their 30s after the stabbing which took place last week.

Samanta Jagielczuk, who is a friend of Mr Gawronski, said he worked at Worcester Bosch and has a passion for boxing and trains regularly at a local boxing club.

Previously we reported that a Polish fundraising page, Pologram, had been set up.

And now an English fundraising page, JustGiving, has launched which has so far raised £110 of a £5,000 target.

The friend said: "We have raised about £1,000 so far, it's going very well."

Samanta told us on Wednesday, (May 11) that his condition had not changed, with Mati still in a coma.

"His condition hasn't changed since the last update - Mati is still fighting," the friend said.

"If he wakes up he will need help to stand up on his feet.

"We do not know yet what part of his brain is damaged, hopefully, he will recover."

The Justgiving page says: "Please, please can everyone donate just a small amount of money. Mateusz is fighting strong and needs just a small amount of donations to help cover medical bills and rehabilitation.

"He is a very kind hardworking person who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

"We love him and we need him back.

"He is in coma, when he will wake up he will need long rehabilitation.

"Thank you all for help and please pray for him."
