THE campaign to fulfill a dying woman's last wish has beaten its target.

We previously reported how friends of Debbie Lacey, from Tolladine, Worcester, wanted to visit the beach for one last time as she battles terminal cervical cancer.

At the time, friends Trudy Gormley and Nikki Burfitt had stepped in to try and raise £500 for the trip, and in just a few days they have broken their target.

The fundraiser now stands at over £600, meaning Mrs Lacey's final wish can be fulfilled.

Mrs Gormley said she was "over the moon" at breaking the fundraising target.

She added the planned fun day at the Tolladine Hub on June 12 will still go ahead as they plan to raise even more money to help her make more memories.

She said: "We are still looking for prizes for our raffle as we plan to at least double that target.

"We will make sure she gets to spend as much precious time with her family as possible it’s all about precious time with her friends and family.

"We are so grateful for all the support and we as a community will do her proud."

Mrs Lacey's friends decided to help her raise some money as she could not afford the beach trip due to rising energy bills.

Paying the energy bills meant the beach trip might not have gone ahead had her friends not stepped in to help.

Mrs Gormley said: "She wants to go to the beach, but she hasn't got the money to do anything.

"She's always worrying about the electricity, so we want to help her raise the money without worrying about the cost.

"I'm sure there is plenty she would love to do, but it's more what we can afford to do."

The fun day is at the Tolly Hub at midday on Saturday, June 11.
