FOOD lovers are often on the lookout for the perfect place to eat that is right on their doorstep, but have you been to a cafe that actively encourages you to eat off it?

Over lockdown, Orchard Cafe in Worcester Woods has been able to reopen its doors, but here is the twist.

The quirky cafe is made up of recycled, upcycled and reused resources that were destined for landfills.

Nett Ward, owner of Orchard Cafe says the quirky cafe was a passion project for her and her daughter during lockdown.

The entire cafe is full to overflowing with upcycled doors, recycled chairs and branches taken from the woods that have now been covered in fairy lights.

Mrs Ward said: "The tables are made out of doors that would've gone to landfill."

Mrs Ward says she found branches from Worcester Woods and upcycled them to use in the cafe and says: "I really used what was around us.

The COVID-19 safe cafe

Inside the cafe, Mrs Ward created a COVID-19-friendly interior to ease nerves as people started to eat out again.

"In lockdown, we couldn't open, but the lovely park area kept me going during COVID-19 because people felt safer sitting outside."

The booths were created to help people feel safe and she said: "We worked to a budget and used what was available.

"It's not about the money, it's about really using what is there. I would do it again."

As things have started to open up again, people have returned to Worcester Woods and have been blown away by the transformation.

Mrs Ward says: "People's reactions have been amazing and some people have even said they haven't been up for a while because of COVID-19 and it looks amazing.

"I was very COVID-19 aware and people wanted their own space when they went out. I wanted something that was easy to clean too.

"The rangers, who own the park do an amazing job in keeping the park clean and everything is green and I wanted that for the inside and being green and environmentally friendly.

"My daughter painted the cable reels and helped me with the decoration of the cafe.

"It's quite a tricky building to keep updated and interesting but it was actually quite easy but I wanted it to be accessible to everyone.

"The cafe comes with wheelchair access and tables at different heights so everyone can be comfortable.

"It has an Alice in Wonderland theme and is a bit quirky and different and it's decorated with stuff that is accessible and easy to find, the stuff is easy to get hold of, doors are always easy to find."
