A HOUSE in Worcester could see the number of apartments contained within increase.

Plans submitted to Worcester City Council could see changes to number 37, Battenhall Road.

Currently, the building is made up of four bedsits, two one-bed apartments and one two-bed bungalow occupied by the owner.

The proposals seek to include three units of accommodation in the new extension, making an overall three bedsits, four one-bed studio apartments and three one-bed apartments.

The site consists of the existing semi-detached property ‘Knutsford’ (number 37) Battenhall Road.

Built in around the 1890s, the building is a three storey semi-detached large Victorian house and stood on Battenhall Road together with its next door property, ‘Merton’ (number 39)

According to the plans: "The property known as Knutsford has long been established as rental accommodation, for some 50 years since before the early 1970s, and cared for through three generations of family ownership.

"A small extension was added to the original ‘servants quarters’ in 1999, and the existing site currently offers seven separate units of accommodation, like a number of the original Victorian properties have been along Battenhall Road in the locality."

To the rear of the main building is a communal garden area, with front driveway parking.

The proposals would result in a net increase of three additional units, with the number of bedsits being reduced from four to three, the redevelopment of the existing two-bed bungalow and an increase in the number of one-bed apartments from two to three.

Also included is the provision of four one-bed studio apartments within the building.

One one-bed studio apartment would be created in what is currently the disused cellar of the house, while there are also plans to increase the number of on-site parking spaces from four to 12.

The plans said: "As shown on the submitted plans, the proposals seek to provide 12 parking spaces at the front of 37 and 39 Battenhall Road, both freeholds of which are owned by the applicant.

"It is proposed that 10 off these spaces could be allocated to number 37, with one space being licenced to Flat 1, 39 Battenhall Road."
