The new chair and vice chair of the county council for the next 12 months have been appointed.

Councillor Chris Rogers will serve as the new chair for the 2022/23 civic year with Cllr Kyle Daisley serving as the council’s youngster ever vice chair.

Cllr Rogers, who represents Stourport-on-Severn and has spent the last year as vice chair, and Cllr Daisley, who represents Bromsgrove South, were elected to the roles following a vote at County Hall in Worcester on Thursday (May 19).

Cllr Rogers takes over from St Peter’s councillor Steve Mackay who was elected chairman in May last year.

The council’s new chairman said he wanted to shine a light on the county’s large rural areas and food production.

“I’m really honoured to be taking on the role of chairman for the next civic year,” he said.

“I’d like to thank my predecessor Steve Mackay for representing the county so well during his time as chairman as we continued to come forward from the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ve been proud to be a Worcestershire resident, at home in Stourport, for the last 30 years, and I’m looking forward to the chance to remind our residents and the county’s visitors what a great place our county is, how much it already has to offer, and how much we’re continuing to develop our wonderful Worcestershire across our four key areas and beyond.

“We’re very blessed to have a county that is 85 per cent rural; in the current economic sector, our county is at the forefront of food production.

“I’m keen during my time as chairman to shine a light on this sector.”
