A CHARITY concert is being held at St Martin's Church in Worcester next week.

The Worcester Male Voice Choir will be performing at the Chairman’s Charity Concert on Saturday, May 28.

The concert is a joint venture between the choir and St Martin’s Church, with all proceeds being split between St Richard’s Hospice, the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, and St Martin’s WOW Appeal.

The programme has been chosen by Les Janes, chairman of the Worcester male Voice Choir, with music ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to the Beach Boys.

Between the sung items there will also be solo spots by the Worcester Male Voice Choir's music team, including musical director Scott Woolfenden, who is a trumpet player, and accompanist James Jarvis, who will make his debut as a concert pianist.

Les Janes said:" This concert was originally planned during the height of Lockdown and as our concert diary was empty at that point it was intended to celebrate the end of the Covid pandemic with a special ‘Chairman’s Concert’.

"As time passed we agreed to share this event with St Martin’s, with whom we have always had close links, and it was agreed that we would share the proceeds for the benefit of our chosen charities.”

Shirley Scott, the Concerts Administrator, said: “St Martin’s WOW Appeal also came out of the pandemic, which encouraged us to focus on what matters to the people in our community.

"We’re very grateful to our friends the Worcester Male Voice Choir who are helping to raise funds for our WOW Appeal.”

Tickets for Saturday’s concert are available in advance, by visiting https://wmvc28may.eventbrite.co.uk, or by purchasing at the door.

Doors open for the event at 6.15pm, with a licensed bar and a raffle for the WOW Appeal.
