NEW management have taken over a popular city centre restaurant with plans to expand its menu soon.

Chung Ying Gardens in Friar Street was overtaken by new manager Denny Chan in March.

Mr Chan is originally from Hong Kong but currently lives in Redditch with plans to move to Worcester soon.

Tsu Law from Chung Ying Gardens said: "He chose to take over Chung Ying Gardens because he loves Worcester, that's why he plans to relocate his wife and two young children there.

"There has been a dip recently as there has been a miscommunication of people thinking we're closed.

"Lots of customers gave feedback that they wanted to come in before we had closed as they had heard it through the grapevine, but we are really eager to say that we are open.

"If anything, we are expanding.

"We are planning to expand our current menu and include new dishes, with all of the original dishes remaining the same.

"We will be adding dishes, not taking anything away.

"We have two chefs, one from China and one from Malaysia so we are hoping to add some Malaysian dishes."

Mr Chan hopes that the dishes will be enjoyed not only by Chung Ying's current and loyal customers but to bring in new ones too.

Miss Law said Mr Chan took over the business back in March following the retirement of the previous owners.

The previous owners announced their departure on the restaurant's Facebook page after almost two decades at the helm.

A statement said: "We’ve been lucky enough to call this place our second home for 19 years.

"This beautiful spot on Friar Street will always mean a lot to us.

"Our journey began in 2003, when Bing and Wendy, first opened the doors to Chung Ying Garden.

"The perfect duo, they started a wonderful sibling business, which flourished and later lead Bing to start his own venture.

"Thanh (some of you know him as Daddy Tran) joined Wendy in 2014 to continue building upon the family business, where he has been sharing his best recipes and dishes for all of us to enjoy.

"We owe a big thank you to all our amazing customers. Your loyalty and support over the years mean everything."
