St Peter's Festival will be returning for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival will be making its comeback this July, having not taken place since 2019.

This year’s festival will be held in Power Park on Sunday, July 17 from noon until 4:30pm.

Parish councillor John Renshaw said: “For the past two summers we’ve been unable to hold the St Peter’s Festival due to the pandemic.

“Last August we held a Scarecrow Festival instead as an event to bring the community together whilst respecting social distancing rules.

"I’m delighted that this summer the festival will be making a comeback and we’ll be holding the Scarecrow Festival again in the two weeks leading up to the festival.”

Festival organiser Georgina Hopkinson added “Last year’s Scarecrow Festival saw some really imaginative scarecrows with the winner just having an edge over the other entries.

"This year we hope to see more St Peter’s residents participating.”

Last year’s winner was a scarecrow named ‘Lion El Messy’ by Elliott and Arianne Reece with some help from their grandmother Chris Reece.

The winners received a £30 gift card for use at a Toby Carvery in recognition of their winning scarecrow.

All entrants received a certificate and a rosette in recognition of their efforts.

A spokesperson from this year's upcoming festival added: "As well as live entertainment, a barbecue and an assortment of stalls by local businesses and charities, the results of the Scarecrow Festival will be announced.

"Further information on both events can be found by visiting the St Peter’s Scarecrow Festival and the St Peter’s Festival Facebook pages or by contacting the festival organisers by email at stpetersfestival@gmail.com."

Organisers are expecting between 1,000 - 1,500 St Peter's residents to attend the festival.

Entry for attendees is free of charge on the afternoon of the festival.
