DISORDER in a pub spilt out into the street and led to someone being hit by a car closing off a busy city road.

A man was left with potentially serious injuries and has been taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment.

Police at the scene on Blackpole Road confirmed that a person had been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

There was a large police presence as Blackpole Road was closed off with ambulances also at the scene.

Midlands Air Ambulance also landed at George V playing fields in Brickfields.

Police at the scene said they were alerted to disorder in the Blackpole Inn.

PC Allan Figueiredo said: "We had reports of a disorder happening at the Blackpole Inn and there was reports of a vehicle potentially colliding with one of the people involved in the disorder. That's as far as we know at the moment.

"The casualty has been taken to hospital but for now going to keep the scene as secure as possible so our investigators can arrive. The road will be closed for the next hour or so until we have an update on the casualty."

The road was closed off at the roundabout on Blackpole Road, in front of Lidl and the Blackpole Retail Park, with customers still able to gain access to both exits.

Other officers were overheard describing the scene as a "serious incident".

One woman at the scene said: " I am not too sure but I think somebody was hit by a car and the car the drove away.

Another onlooker seemed to think that an "elderly woman" was injured during the event.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.39pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Blackpole Road in Worcester.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a man who was the pedestrian.

"He was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries.

"He received treatment at the scene. He was conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital via land ambulance for further assessment.”
