A care home resident has received her telegram from the queen after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Edna Warner celebrated the milestone with her friends and family at Woodland View Care Home.

As if receiving a letter from Her Majesty wasn’t enough, Noddy, as she’s affectionately known, received more than 100 cards from the local community.

She said: “My goal has always been to make it to 100 so I could receive a telegram from the Queen and it really was very special.

“I had a wonderful day celebrating and I was so happy to receive so many special birthday cards.”

Edna’s grandchildren gave her the nickname Noddy when they were little as she was always nodding off.

She was married to her husband Charles for 59 years before he passed away around 20 years ago.

The couple have three children, Chris, Pauline and Janet, the latter of whom they enjoyed visiting at her home in Canada with her family.

They also have six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and even one great great-grandchild.

Noddy retired from her job as a bank clerk at the age of 70, moving into Woodland View Care Home in November 2021.

On April 1 Edna reached her 100th birthday and postman Alan was just as excited as her, for it was the first time he had the privilege of delivering a telegram from the Queen.

Cindy Hawkins, Woodland View’s home manager, said: “Noddy came to live here after an initial period of respite but she liked it so much that she decided to become a permanent resident.

“She is always busy and enjoys gardening, bird watching, and listening to her favourite band Westlife. And she always joins in our keep fit sessions.

“Noddy had a wonderful birthday and was absolutely thrilled to receive her telegram, which was proudly delivered by our postman Alan.

"We all made a real fuss of her on the day and her daughter Chris was also able to join us, while Pauline and Janet and their families joined in online.”
