Business owners on Broad Street feel they have once again been forgotten after other roads in the city centre were brightened up with Jubilee hanging basket.

But the owners of Toys & Games of Worcester have said businesses in the lower end of the street have faced a serious impediment to their livelihoods for over six months.

Urgent work was undertaken at the building after it closed in May 2021 for renovations.

Storms in November caused the building to be at risk of partial collapse and led to large scaffolding panels to be wrapped around it effectively partially blocking part of Broad Street.

A spokesperson for Toys & Games of Worcester said: "We are fed up with the monstrosity that is the Poundland building and the state of the scaffold outside of it.

"We have made repeated requests to Crown Estates and Worcester City Council to tidy and help with the area

"We have lived with disruption for over a year now, and this serious impediment to our livelihoods for over six months.

"There is still no wrap on the scaffold as promised by Crown Estates, there is still abandoned barriers on Broad Street. This is unacceptable. Simply kicking the can down the street will not wash any longer.

"There has been no serious effort to engage, assist or recompense traders on lower Broad Street.

"We live and work in Worcester, we are proud to do so. We will not put up with this any longer."

The statement also slammed the lack of attention paid to Broad Street, after Jubilee hanging baskets were placed throughout the city.

The statement said: "Today Worcester City Council put 160 flower baskets containing fuchsias, verbena, petunias and geraniums dotted in the city. Not one on the lower part of Broad Street.

"It has been highlighted time and time again the mess that Broad Street is in and again we are ignored. No more.

"Please join a work party on-site at Poundland, of friends, family, retailers, employees, customers, their families and the press to tidy the area.

"The abandoned barriers will be moved to the unused area by Merrivale House. This is scheduled for 9.30am Friday 15th June.

"If the wealthiest landlord in the country and Worcester City Council can't treat Worcester with respect, the people of Worcester will do it for you.

"We don't want handouts, it's our job to provide money for local services and infrastructure.

"We want action from the people we give this money to so we can continue to do our bit."
