THERE was a party spirit at a community centre as young and old gathered to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Families sat enjoying picnics while children played on fairground rides and games at Ronkswood Community Centre.

There were also bouncy castles, face painting, archery, drums to have a go at playing, a mechanical bull, a tombola, doorstep princesses and refreshments.

Lisa Craven, who works for Worcester Community Trust and helped to organise the event, said: "The day so far has been amazing.

"There have been so many local faces and even some not so local faces too.

"It's been great to meet some people that I hadn't spoken to before."

Worcester Community Trust teamed up with Platform Housing to put on the celebrations.

Paul Edwards, engagement officer at Platform Housing, said: "The events that we have been putting on have really grown since we have grouped together and it's become a lot stronger."

Derek Furby, who was part of the team responsible for putting the event together, said: "It has been so nice to see so many different cultures and ages coming together for this celebration."

The doorstep princesses made an appearance at the party, saying hello and taking photos with the children.

"We have been here for some events before but they have never been this big."

Amy Johnson, playing Elsa from Frozen, said: "We saw the front of the hall and thought 'wow this looks great' and then we got round to the back and saw the rest of the party.

"I've even had a go on the mechanical bull. I was there singing Let It Go."

Steve McArdle and Patrick McArdle from Drum Love were set up to teach the drums to children and families throughout the day.

Steve McArdle said: "We visit a lot of community centres and it's always really good to see events like this.

"Kids don't have youth centres anymore, this is their youth centre so events like this mean a lot."

As well as the entertainment the organisers have put in place, families have been bringing along their own food and picnic blankets so sit together and enjoy the afternoon.

The community party started at 12pm and is scheduled to go on until 4pm.
