A FORMER go-karting venue looks set to be converted back into a warehouse and offices under a new plan.

The proposal would see the former Indoor Karting track at the Crucible Business Park in Norton near Worcester revamped to make way for a potential new occupier.

An application put forward to Wychavon District Council shows how the empty unit off Woodbury Lane would be re-cladded alongside new doors, windows and a roof.

Part of the building would also be demolished as part of the work and new car and cycle parking would also be provided.

The application also asks for the use of the building to be changed for commercial, business and service, general industrial or storage and distribution purposes.

A statement included with the application said: “The applicant wishes to return the premises to a use more akin to the originally intended use of the building and wider business park.

“The intention is to refurbish the building to provide attractive premises for use for light industrial, commercial, business and service industries, along with the potential for general industrial and storage and distribution.

“The change of use would enable greater flexibility for potential future occupiers of the premises and would therefore, maximise the likelihood of occupation of the building for employment purposes within the near future.

“The proposed works to the building will result in a significant improvement to the visual appearance of the building. The building currently appears dated and is visually unattractive, due to its aged utilitarian appearance. The proposals will result in the roof being replaced and all elevations of the building being reclad.

“The building is currently in poor condition and appears very dated. The design and condition of the building visually detracts from the industrial estate. The proposed works will transform the external appearance of the building and ensure a modern, quality finish, which will enhance the building and its setting.

“The proposed works will also, not only enable a sustainable re-use of the building and site but will also significantly improve the insultation values of the building and enable the premises to operate in a more environmentally sound way.”
