Police have crushed a motorbike confiscated from youths who had been using it to speed up and down a residential area.

Residents of Ash Avenue in Brickfields have been unhappy with the noise of motorbikes driving down the street in the evenings, sometimes as late as 1am.

A spokesperson from the Gorse Hill and Rainbow Hill safer neighbourhood team said: "The motorcycles in the park have been a concern for a while now.

"We have been on regular patrols in the park but when a police car or personal are seen the motorcycle speeds off in the opposite direction.

"We have been in discussions with the city council and there is now a plan in place to get all the entry and egress points of the park to have gates fitted.

"This will prevent any motorcycles from getting in or out of the park.

"However, this is still in the consultation phase.

"We have also issued 2 x S59 warnings to males we have been able to identify as riding the motorcycles in the area.

"Yesterday (Thursday, June 16), we managed to seize a motorcycle from within Brickfields park after a member of the public called it in.

"This bike is the one that has been seen riding around the park lately."

Parish Councillor John Renshaw said: "Great that the perpetrators have been traced and the bike seized.

"Like others I see little point in crushing the bike unless it is unroadworthy.

"Why not sell or auction it with the proceeds going to charity?"

A twitter user responded to Gorse Hill and Rainbow Hill safer neighbourhood team's tweet, they said: "Brilliant news wasn’t going to be long before someone’s dog or even a child was hit by it."

The same safer neighbourhood team seized a quad bike from Warndon earlier in the week after receiving reports of it being ridden dangerously.

Last month, Gorse Hill and Rainbow Hill officers issued two section 59 warnings to youths riding bikes in an anti-social manner in Portefields Road, Tolladine.
