A MAN who was thought to have a gun was apprehended by armed police near Worcester city centre.

West Mercia Police officers and an armed police team were dealing with the incident in Castle Street at approximately 11.20am.

It was confirmed to the Worcester News by West Mercia Police that the man was in fact carrying a BB gun.

A BB gun is a type of air gun designed to shoot metallic balls, called BBs.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "It was not an incident of concern. We were called to reports of a firearm and on attendance, it became clear that the man in fact had a BB gun.

"No arrests were made at the scene."

The incident took place directly opposite the Ducati garage, near Pitchcroft.

The armed police reportedly arrived at the scene in an unmarked black BMW.

One eyewitness said: "I was parking at Pitchcroft. An unmarked black BMW pulled up and two armed officers jumped out.

"They made the two guys get on the floor, cuffed them."

The eyewitness believed the police had found some kind of weapon at the scene.

Another eyewitness reports seeing four armed police cars on Castle Street including armed officers. They said they saw a guy sat on the floor with officers all around him.

By approximately 11.47 am, the police had moved on from the scene.
