A POPULAR music festival has taken place in Malvern over the weekend.

Mappfest returned for its 2022 festival on Malvern Link Common this Saturday and Sunday.

The festival features a wide array of music acts, inflatables and fairground attractions for kids, face painting, a raffle and lots of food options.

The event saw hundreds of people out enjoying the live music, sitting underneath tents and on picnic blankets on the Common.

The festival also saw an aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly over the festival as well.

Andy Mapp founded the festival more than a decade ago, starting as a garden party in 2009 with a raffle for charity and a couple of live performers.

It raises thousands for Worcestershire charities including Acorns Children's Hospice, Headway, Water Rescue UK and Vale Animal Rescue.

Jonathan Smith, chairman of the event, was happy the weather improved from yesterday and was pleased to see such a good turnout.

He said: "Everything is brilliant, we were soggy and wet yesterday but today is amazing and it's all for a great cause.

"The charities we support are all local and very worthwhile."

Will Apps, vice-chairman and charity organiser, echoed Mr Smith's comments and highlighted all the great things available at the festival.

He said: "The weather is on our side, we have so many options for everyone and lots to do for the kids.

"It has been a really great day."

Lyn Smiley, social secretary for Mappfest, praised the music and was also happy that the weather was able to stay dry for the event.

She said: "It has been great. We were washed out with rain yesterday but today we have a great turnout and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

"We have some great music and lots to do here."

The festival has won the Pride of Malvern Hills Community People's Choice Award as well as being shortlisted for the country's best festival award.

This year's events got underway at midday on both Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19.

The festival was previously unable to run due to the effects of the pandemic, and was cancelled in 2020.
