THE Mayor of Worcester tried his hand at ukulele when he joined a group of uke players in the city’s CrownGate shopping centre.

Councillor Adrian Gregson joined members of the club playing in Bell Square as they raised £362.92 for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Coun Gregson donned a hat, picked up a ukulele and joined the strummers as they sang Bad Moon Rising – which he had especially asked the group to do.

He thanked the band for their hard work in raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and the people who had generously donated.

The players performed several other numbers, much to the appreciation and applause by an audience which had gathered in the shopping centre to hear the music and see the mayor join in the fun.

The ukulele club has now raised £5,700 for Pancreatic Cancer UK since January when members began supporting it as their charity for 12 months. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers – just three to six percent of those diagnosed survive for five years and studies show that death rates for this cancer are increasing.

Worcester Ukulele Club would like to thank everyone who kindly donated money and CrownGate staff for their help in raising awareness and funds to fight this disease.

The performance took place on Saturday, June 18.
