A PLAN to build more homes on the edge of the city has been put forward.

Housing association Bromford has revealed plans to build 48 affordable homes off Broomhall Lane between Worcester and Kempsey.

The homes would sit next to a proposed plan to build 70 homes by Platform Housing.

It is one of several plans to build homes to the south of the city that are still to be decided which includes a plan to build 79 homes on the former Aston Coaches depot off Bath Road.

If given the green light, the development would also sit near an already approved 92-home plan on the former Ketch car boot site on the edge of Worcester.

The site is just inside land earmarked as part of an urban extension of Worcester included in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP), the major planning blueprint which sets out where tens of thousands of homes will be built around the county in the next two decades.

However, the space is also classed as ‘green infrastructure in the SWDP that needs to be ‘protected and restored’ as well as an area of “known and significant archaeological potential.”

A statement included with the application said: “The application proposals will enable the delivery of 48 affordable homes at a time when there is an ongoing shortfall in the district, which represents a substantial benefit of the proposals.

“It has also been set out that the proposals generally accord with relevant planning policy in respect of design, heritage, landscape, ecology, transport and access, flood risk, and drainage.

“Whilst some limited adverse impacts have been identified in relation to landscape as well as some small loss of hedgerows to accommodate access to the site, it has been demonstrated that these impacts should only be attributed limited weight and that, overall, the cumulative benefits of the proposal, including the delivery of affordable housing which will help to address shortfall in the district, should collectively be attributed significant weight.”

The application number is M/22/00714/FUL and consultation ends on July 22.
