A new cycling track has opened at a park in Worcestershire - thanks to the efforts of a group of teens.
The brainchild of local teenagers, a pump track has been officially unveiled at Wychbold recreation ground.
The BMX course was brought to life thanks to Dodderhill Parish Council.
Chair of the council, councillor Alyson Keane, said: “The idea was suggested by some of the teenagers of the parish during a consultation process about the whole recreational park.
“The youngsters have waited patiently for the planning and delivery of the track and now hopefully will get hours of enjoyment.
“The pump track is part of many different activities provided for parishioners which is important for the community's health and mental well-being, especially in the current economic climate.
“It is so good to see families together at the park and it provides variety for all ages of the whole family.”
The track, built by Clark & Kent Contractors, cost £71,340 with funding coming through Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and a Sports England Lotter grant.
All in all, the project took just under four weeks to complete.
Councillor Keane added: “Over the last four years the Parish Council has provided many new facilities for its transformation of the recreational area.
“By using the Section 106 and Lottery Funding wisely they have created an area for families to spend time together and enjoy the outdoors.”
The opening day was marked with a fundraising event in aid of Wychbold Church and the Air Ambulance.
A tombola raised £150 for the church while a defibrillator training session was held to raise money for the Air Ambulance, however the total has not been calculated yet.
“Defibrillator Training was requested by a member of the community and the event organised by the parish council to run as an activity alongside the pump track opening,” said councillor Keane.
“The trainer David Lee provided his time free and chose the Air Ambulance as the charity for the funds to go to.
“Wychbold Church is a large part of the Dodderhill Parish and the annual fete is normally run to support the church.”
