MILLIONS of flowers have bloomed, creating a spectacle of colour - but you will have to act quickly if you want to see it for yourself.

The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company’s stunning field of flowers officially opened today at Wyke Manor Estate in Wick.

Now in its 25th year, the field of flowers spread over 25 acres blooms for just a short amount of time each summer, meaning guests only have until July 10 to visit.

But what can you expect?

“Colours! Flowers! A spectacular panorama!” says Sally Young of the Real Flower Petal Confetti Company.

“This year the field is enormous – over 25 acres. Literally millions of blooms!

“The flowers are very tall and looking wonderful. They enjoyed all the sunshine and showers we had in May and June!

“It is an amazing experience to see such an expanse of colour, and wonderful to simply wander around the flowers.

“It’s so unusual to see so many on such a grand scale. It’s great to soak up the views, but also to look at the little details too – spotting poppies in amongst the white delphiniums is my favourite.”

Staff at the field have to carefully work out when is the best time to open.

The first flowers start to appear in mid-June, but it takes a while for them to all reach full bloom and then they only last for a short time.

After closing on July 10, staff will go into the fields to collect the harvest.

All the flowers are grown for their petals, which are then dried to make wedding confetti.

With the field open for such a limited time each year, demand for tickets is high.

Sally added: “Tickets are selling well, but there are still plenty left!

“There was a big rush to buy tickets when they first went on sale.

“We are very lucky to have lots of very loyal supporters who are keen to come back to see the flowers. But it’s a huge field and there’s plenty of room for everyone!”
