Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Worcester as the Queen’s Baton Relay visits the city ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay got underway at Buckingham Palace on October 7, 2021, when The Queen placed her Message to the Commonwealth into the baton.

Four-time Paralympic gold medallist Kadeena Cox had the honour of being the first of thousands of Batonbearers to carry the baton, which has since made its way around the Commonwealth.

The baton returned to England on Sunday, July 3, and will tour the host nation before the games themselves get underway at the Opening Ceremony at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on July 28.

When will the Queen’s Baton Relay be in Worcester?

The baton will come to Worcester on Friday, July 22, starting at The Cross and heading down the High Street before visiting Worcester Cathedral.

The baton is expected to arrive in the city at about 5.30pm and Worcester City Council says there will be a range of street entertainers ready to keep people entertained as they wait to cheer on the Batonbearers.

Power stilt walkers, bouncing a metre off the ground, will be in action in the High Street between The Cross and Cathedral Square.

They’ll be accompanied by the Wonky Olympics, whose comedy stylings see them attempt to recreate all the energy and excitement of the world’s biggest sporting events using hula hoops, cones and a tiny megaphone.

There will be cricket-themed fun at South Quay and New Road, with roller skating performers dressed as giant cricket balls building up the atmosphere.
