Alton Towers Resort is set to launch a new display where visitors will be able to see dinosaur remains that are 125 million years old.

The remains of a Spinosaur were found by fossil hunters on the Isle of Wight in 2018 and their studies were published this year.

Pieces of bone that belonged to the two-legged dinosaur suggest that it was more than 10 metres in length from snout to tail and it might even be the largest predatory dinosaur ever found in Europe.

The display will be at the theme park for three days from Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17 and guests can expect to see a replica skull of the dinosaur that’s been named ‘Andy’, after CBeebies presenter Andy Day.

The remains and replica skull were on display at the Dinosaur Isle Museum on the Isle of Wight but they're moving to CBeebies Land for the event.

It doesn’t stop there though as visitors can enjoy Andy’s Adventures Dinosaur Dig.

Little ones can explore prehistoric sights and sounds as they find their own fossils and analyse them in the fossilator.

They can also help build a new exhibit and learn about their new discoveries in the live interactive show.

Plus, Andy will join visitors via a video link from his gizmo.

Alex Peaker, Collections Officer (Geology), Dinosaur Isle Museum, said: “The Spinosaurids include the largest predatory dinosaurs to have ever lived, some of which were larger than the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Our Spinosaur remains are part of the largest carnivorous dinosaur found in Europe.

“We were delighted to call it Andy after CBeebies TV presenter Andy Day because he has done so much to engage children and excite them about prehistoric monsters over the years. With the addition of the new Andy’s Adventures Dinosaur Dig attraction, we felt CBeebies Land is the perfect place for it to make a debut appearance on the UK mainland.”

Larry Roles, Marketing Director for Alton Towers Resort, said: “We’re excited to host this immersive, educational event alongside our latest CBeebies Land attractions, Andy’s Adventures Dinosaur Dig, Hey Duggee’s Big Adventure Badge and JoJo & Gran Gran At Home, as we start to welcome the summer holidays. This was once a massive dinosaur, and it’s now a massive coup for CBeebies Land to have the remains at our Theme Park”.

The new fossils will appear alongside a collection of interactive dinosaur activities and attractions, hosted by expert geologists from the Dinosaur Isle Museum, Britain’s first purpose-built dinosaur attraction.

The expert geologists will show little ones what it’s like to discover dinosaurs in real life and they’ll be able to handle a range of ancient prehistoric remains.

General admission tickets for the theme park start from £36 per person and the Spinosaur display is included in the price. You can buy your tickets via the Alton Towers Resort website.
