Eight men and women are to stand trial accused of sexually and physically abusing children at a Worcestershire school.

They have been charged following an investigation by West Mercia Police into allegations of child sexual and physical abuse at Rhydd Court School in Hanley Castle, near Malvern, between the late 1970s and early 1990s.

Those charged are aged between 50 and 82 and are based across the UK.

They are due to appear at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 4.

Mark Paul, from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “The Crown Prosecution Service authorised West Mercia Police to charge the defendants following careful consideration of the evidence they presented to us as a result of their ongoing investigation.

“Criminal proceedings against the defendants are now active, and they have a right to a fair trial. Please be reminded that there should be no reporting, commentary or online information sharing that could prejudice these proceedings.”

The investigation relates to allegations made between the late 1970s and early 1990s at a time when the premises was owned by the local authority. The premises have since been sold.

Police say the investigation and charges are not in any way linked to anyone connected with the premises since it was sold.
