A WOMAN alleges she was the victim of an unprovoked dog attack that has prompted a police investigation.

The alleged attack happened as the woman was walking to the city centre on Wednesday, July 6.

The alleged attack near Wilfred Close, Merriman's Hill, is now being investigated by West Mercia Police.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I was making my way into town at around 8.40am and took the alleyway that leads on to Merrimans Walk, opposite the children's playground.

"The man was walking past with two dogs which were very excitable and kept wrapping their leads around him as they were walking.

"I was walking directly past the man and the larger dog then saw me and jumped up at me. As he jumped he swung his head around and bit down on my arm.

"I did absolutely nothing to antagonise the dog.

"I have been around dogs all my life and would never knowingly do anything to bother a dog, especially one I do not know.

"It showed no signs it was going to attack me."

The woman said despite the dog biting her arm, the owner did not show any remorse or apologies and instead blamed her.

She said: "The man turned around and tried to blame me for being too close to him when I said the dog had bitten me. He would not give me any information or his name either.

"I tried to call the police at the scene but he disappeared.

"It bothers me a lot as this was directly near a children's play area and could have easily been a child that was injured."

The woman also said she had to receive a tetanus vaccine after the bite.

West Mercia Police said it is continuing to investigate the incident.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Around 8:45am on Wednesday 6 July we received a call reporting a dog bite on Wilfred Close, Worcester.

"Inquiries are ongoing but no arrests have been made as of yet."
