HISTORIC street lights have been refurbished and put back in their rightful place on Worcester Bridge.

Seven light columns and their lanterns were removed from Worcester Bridge for refurbishment.

A lane was closed on Worcester Bridge, on Monday (July 11), to accommodate the placing of the street lights.

The work started on Friday when Worcestershire County Council began reinstalling the columns and their lanterns which were removed from the eastern (Cathedral) side of the bridge earlier this year.

Following these works, the final eight columns and the remaining lanterns on the western (Pitchcroft) side of the bridge will be removed for refurbishment.

The lanterns, dating back to the 1930s, have deteriorated following decades of exposure to river flooding conditions, as well as suffering corrosion and general wear and tear.

It is expected that they will all be reinstated by late Autumn 2022.
