The mayor paid a visit as a new funeral home opened in Droitwich.

Lee Russell Independent Funeral Directors opened its doors for the first-time last week.

Mr Russell wanted to open a funeral home, having worked in the industry for a number of years.

He said: “I wanted to be able to offer the community an independent family owned funeral director within the area.

“Droitwich has always been close to my heart and I feel privileged to be able to serve the local community once more.

“I chose to become a funeral director after the passing of my grandparents and two close friends of mine. I wanted to give something back and to help people.

“When a family suffers the loss of a loved one, I am here to help, support and guide - every step of the way.”

The mayor of Droitwich, councillor George Duffy, stopped by for the grand opening last Monday, July 11.

Mr Russell, who was born in Worcester but spent much of his childhood in Droitwich, wanted to open the home two years ago, but saw his plans delayed by the pandemic.

He began his career as a trainee for Droitwich Spa Funeral Services, now known as A.V. Band.

Mr Russell then joined an independent director, with whom he helped set up a Worcester branch where he was appointed home manager, before going to work with a number of independent companies.

His new project will provide a 24-hour service and will offer a tailored service to help meet the needs of each family.

“I have had great feedback from local businesses, residents and visitors who have already attended the funeral home,” added Mr Russell.
