AN online auction which closes this weekend is hoping to raise thousands of pounds in memory of a talented Worcestershire motorcyclist killed during a race.

Young biker Chris Jones died, aged 14, after a crash at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, in August 2005.

Pam Jones and husband Clive, who own CJ Motorcyles and Scooters in Droitwich, have since worked tirelessly to raise £200,000 for the CJ Riders fund, which provides trackside medical equipment.

The charity is now auctioning one of only 10 specially- commissioned Honda Fireblade bikes which are replicas of the one ridden by John McGuinness to achieve the fastest-ever time at the Isle of Man TT circuit.

The lot also includes lunch with fund supporter Mr McGuinness, a photo, TT book and a limited edition TT Nitro Helmet, all signed.

Bids for the sale, running on online auction site eBay, already stand at £12,400 and Mrs Jones said she was hoping the bike would bring in £15,000.

She said: "It (fund-raising) is the only thing that does keep me going.

"Without it I just don't know where I would be. I used to always look after all Chris's sponsorship and all of that.

"When there's nothing going on that's when I do struggle.

"I struggle to continue unless I've got something to do and have my mind occupied."

Mrs Jones said so far the fund has invested in a mobile X-ray machine and an ultra-sound machine so injured riders can be assessed quickly at the trackside.

The fund has also paid for air ambulances to be on standby at events and is looking at providing mobile ambulances.

Before his death, Chris, described as a passionate sportsman, was expected to progress to world level in motorcycle racing.
