What with all the pressure from those that "say" we must get our kids into fitness it is really quite a challenge to us parents to encourage the little darlings off the sofa and from in front of the play station to actually go out and do as we were encouraged to - "do something less boring instead!"

What with such inventions as the Nintendo Wii and exercise bikes that connect to a TV game what chance have we got?

Well actually as it happens, quite a good one, especially with the new initiative that has just started taking place at Ravenmeadow Golf Club.

Golf? You may question- what interest does walking around a field hitting a ball have to a 10 year old? But after my recent visit with my daughter I was amazed, gone is the stuffy image of all rules and righteousness and in its place is a fun friendly approach with emphasis on enjoyment.

The guys at Ravenmeadow have got it sussed with every facility you can think of from the use of specific kids equipment for hitting a few balls on the driving range, a pitch and putt 9 hole course, full 18 tee golf course right through to a full on Golf Coaching party with pizza and ice cream to boot.

The beauty of this facility is it is a softly softly approach to exercise and gives you the opportunity to do something together (although my daughter seems too talented to play me already!)they offer after school clubs, holiday boot camps and weekly coaching sessions, along with a national coaching programme gearing them toward tournament standard, so however keen your offspring are there is definitely the option for them - especially as they are currently constructing a crazy golf course ( no windmill insight yet!) Anybody interested in getting their child, wife, or Granny into learning, and more importantly enjoying golf should call Leo Tarrant on 01905 757525.

The dates for the next Coaching course are Sat 1st March running for 8 weeks at a cost of £65 per child per course.

Choice of times are 9-10, 10-11, 11-12.Sun 2nd March are 9-10, 10-11, 11-12, the minimum age is 6 maximum 16 and they need to book in advance. Click on the link below to enter the competition.
