A NEW picture has been shared of new paving work being carried out in Worcester city centre

The transformation of The Cross involves natural stone paving being laid under old tram shelters, part of a bigger scheme to improve Worcester for shoppers and visitors.

This photo, shared by Worcestershire County Council, shows the progress that has been made so far as part of the Future High Streets Fund scheme.

A spokesperson from Worcestershire County Council's Highways and Travel said: "Great progress has been made in The Cross, Worcester, on the Future High Streets Fund scheme From Mon 1 Aug for up to 8 weeks.

"The Cross will be closed from 10am - 6pm on Monday to Friday. There will be no access from Trinity Street to St Swithin's Street and a temporary taxi rank is in place on Angel Street."

The plan forms part of a raft of work still underway to improve the city for residents, shoppers and businesses and drive growth.

The improvements were made as part of the government scheme to renew and reshape town centres and high streets in a way that drives growth improves the experience and ensures future sustainability.

Worcester’s historic Scala Theatre will be converted into a new arts venue and the former Co-op building on Angel Street will undergo a major transformation.

Worcester was awarded £17.9million from the central Government’s Future High Streets Fund.

The investment is set to transform the northern part of the city centre into a leisure, cultural, entertainment and residential quarter.
