Cyclists and councillors have celebrated the opening of a new cycle lane in Worcester.
A new section of cycle lane has been opened up over the Carrington Bridge, connecting the Ketch roundabout to the Powick roundabout and Ham’s Way footbridge.
A number of dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians have now been opened as part of ongoing work on the A4440 Southern Link Road.
These include an underpass under the Carrington Bridge and the Hams Way, Crookbarrow Way and Broomhall Way bridges.
Barriers on the new Temeside Way footway and cycleway came down yesterday (Thursday, August 4) and it is already being used by cyclists.

Members of campaign group Bike Worcester met to try out the lane this morning (Friday) and were met by Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for infrastructure, and Mike Rouse, the portfolio holder for highways and transport.
Dan Brothwell, chairman of Bike Worcester, said: “There was always a cycle lane here but for a long time it was pretty low quality.
“Then with the roadworks taking place, eventually it had to close. For 14 months there was a diversion in place that would add 30 minutes to your journey if you were walking.
“This new lane is three metres wide and barriered-off, it’s amazing.”
'Biggest infrastructure project in Worcestershire'
Mr Bayliss, who is also the leader of Worcester City Council, said: “This is an important part of the project - the biggest infrastructure project in Worcestershire for decades and one that has cost something like £100 million.
“It’s nice to see users coming to celebrate the opening of it with us.”
Mr Rouse said it was wonderful to see the lane opened and that it would create more opportunities for people to commute into Worcester.
Work on the Southern Link Road took a big step towards completion last week as the dual carriageway along Temeside Way was opened to traffic.
Phased openings are now taking place of the slip roads from Kempsey and towards Powick.
