Worcestershire’s only American Football club is running a children’s summer camp.

The Worcestershire Black Knights holds its first ever Youth Flag Football Summer Camp on Saturday, August 13, between 10am and 3pm at Droitwich Rugby Club.

Founded in 2014, the only American Football team in the county is looking to expand its presence within Worcestershire by introducing boys and girls aged 7-16 to the sport.

The event on August 13 is a free taster session, with 90-minute sittings for three different age groups:

10am – 11.30am, children aged 7-10

12pm – 1.30pm, children aged 11-13

2pm – 3.30pm, children aged 14-16

The summer camp is completely free to participate and requires no prior experience.

Flag is the fastest growing format of the game not only in Great Britain, but across the world, where professional leagues such as the American Flag Football League (AFFL) and the newly established NFL Flag are starting to spring up.

It is a high-octane, non-contact version of American football, where tackles are made by pulling off flags that all players wear on their hips.

Club to host first-ever youth camp

Dan Taylor, the club’s development officer, said: “It’s an exciting time at the Black Knights, hosting our first-ever youth summer camp.

“We have had enquiries from parents for a number of years now, finally we have the right pieces in place to offer an exclusive taste of football to youth players in Worcestershire.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming new faces into the team and a successful summer camp will hopefully lead to more sessions in the future, with the overall aim of establishing Worcestershire’s first ever Youth American Football team.”

Teams across the country participate in the British American Football Association (BAFA) leagues.

These leagues provide a further development opportunity for players in both flag and contact football. With over 60 American Football clubs located in the UK, interest within the sport has skyrocketed within the UK over the last decade.
