A FRUSTRATED business owner of a popular Inn in Worcester has said he is embarrassed after a reoccurring burst pipe has left his guests and staff without water.

A burst water pipe caused havoc on Bell Lane in Lower Broadheath in Worcester - and local residents say it is the third or fourth time it has happened in the past few months.

Residents and business owners were left with low pressured water on Wednesday (August 10) and temporary traffic lights had to be put up in the area.

However, Ian Davies, 50, owner of The Bell Inn on Martley Road said the burst pipe has been a reoccurring issue which has sometimes left his residential guests unable to use the toilet or shower in the morning.

Mr Davies said: "I know they fix it, but four weeks later it is the same thing again.

"An employee of mine was left without water for a week during mid-July.

"We are trying to conserve water and we're not watering your garden or plants and then you see water pouring down the road.

"If we can't water the garden to save water, then so be it, but at the same time, you don't want to see it pour down the road."

The four-and-a-half-star Inn can accommodate 10-14 residential guests at a time and Mr Davies said: "From a guest point of view, it's difficult to explain why the toilet won't flush or why they can't have a shower when there isn't a flood.

"The leak has affected our business really badly, we do accommodation and we've been full for the first time in a long time.

"It's the same pipe and it's the same leak and it is just too often and it's really detrimental for the business.

"Guests can't shower or flush the toilet and it's embarrassing.

"We always compensate our guests when we have issues so they don't leave us a bad review.

"The guests want to have a shower in the morning before they go to work.

Resident Martin Barker, 64, said: "I've noticed lower pressure in the water since the burst pipe, but I didn't notice it being discoloured, naively I just drank it."

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “Our teams attended a burst water main on Bell Lane in Worcester at 6am on Wednesday. The leak was repaired, and supply was restored to all properties by 1.30pm that afternoon.

“We would like to offer our sincere apologies to those residents whose supply was affected by this incident and our teams supplied bottled water to householders.”

“We are very sorry to hear about the experience of the owners of the Bell Inn and would encourage them to contact our customer service team directly so that we can discuss how we can help them.”
