A WOMAN, aged 50, has died after falling into a canal in Stourport.

On Tuesday, August 16, at around 11 pm emergency services rushed to the Stourport Basin area after reports that two women required help from the canal.

One woman was in critical condition and received advanced life support at the scene before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Sadly, the 50-year-old woman from Stourport died in hospital.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, West Mercia Police said.

Another woman had sustained injuries but did not require treatment.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.05 pm to reports of persons in the water near Mart Lane, Stourport on Severn.

“One ambulance, two paramedic officers, a Critical Care Car from Midlands Air Ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene.

"Upon arrival, we found two women who were rescued from the water by the fire service. The first was in a critical condition.

"She received advanced life support from ambulance staff at the scene. She was conveyed to Worcester Royal Hospital.

“The second woman had sustained injuries not believed to be serious and did not require treatment."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Around 11 pm last night (Tuesday 16 August) we received a report that a woman had fallen into the canal near York Street, Stourport.

“We attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue.

"The 50-year-old woman from Stourport was taken to Royal Worcestershire Hospital but sadly died. The death is not being treated as suspicious."
