A MAN was left trapped in a car with serious injuries after an M5 crash between a van and tanker.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a crash on the M5 northbound at 6.67pm on Wednesday evening, between junctions four and three. 

An eyewitness who was at Sixways Stadium heard multiple sirens as they were approaching the M5.

Crews from Droitwich and Evesham attended the scene, alongside Bromsgrove and Redditch crews.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted to the incident at 6.67pm where a van had collided with a tanker.

"On arrival, we discovered one male who was medically trapped, which we were able to free. He was then handed into the care of the ambulance service.

"The M5 remained fully closed whilst the incident was made safe. Police and National Highways crews were also in attendance."

The ambulance service revealed that three occupants of the van were able to safely make their way out of the vehicle.

The fourth occupant sustained serious injuries.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.54pm to reports of a two-vehicle RTC on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 4 and 3, Bromsgrove.

"Three ambulances and a paramedic officer attended. Crews arrived to find three occupants out of a van involved in a collision with a lorry.

"A fourth occupant was trapped inside the vehicle. Ambulance crews worked closely with fire colleagues to extricate the man from the van.

"He had sustained serious injuries and received treatment on scene to stabilise his condition before being conveyed by land ambulance on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

"The driver, a man, and a girl were assessed and found with less serious injuries. They were both conveyed to Sandwell Hospital.

"The fourth occupant, a woman, was uninjured and discharged on scene."
