A WOMAN has admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on a child.

Rhiann Bowyer gave the plea when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, (August 24).

The 27-year-old admitted one count: maliciously and unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on a child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Herefordshire between December 1 and 16, 2019.

In the short hearing in courtroom one at Worcester Crown Court Judge James Burbridge QC heard Bowyer, of Firs Lane, Bromyard, had pleaded guilty on a basis - with the prosecution needing time to consider whether that was acceptable to the crown.

Asking Bowyer to stand the judge told her she had had "the good sense" to admit to injuring the child.

He said the case would be adjourned to October 24 when the court could potentially be in a position to sentence her.

The judge told Bowyer to engage with the probation service before that hearing while they produced a pre-sentence report, but stressed it was no promise to the sentence she will receive adding: "It may be you go to prison".

Bowyer, who wore a black top and red skirt to court, was given unconditional bail.
