A Worcester City footballer has praised an opposition club after they acted swiftly to remove a racist spectator.

Tyreace Brown, who signed for the Blue and Whites this Summer, says he was the subject of racist abuse during his side's match at Atherstone Town on Saturday.

In a tweet, the defender said the N-word was shouted at him by a fan in the crowd.

He wrote: "Had the n***** shout today, didn’t hear it myself but my keeper Adam Harrison backed me straight up and confronted the daft fan."

Brown added that he was pleased with the swift action taken by the home side.

"Just been informed he got escorted out and banned for life, Atherstone Town FC setting a good example more should follow," he said.

City goalkeeper Harrison added: "Thank you to Atherstone for taking action against that fan so quickly.

"No need for it anywhere."

Atherstone striker Mitchell Piggon responded to Brown's social media post.

He said: "Didn’t hear this either but disgusting if so! Glad they were removed and dealt with accordingly!

"Have a great season! Good battle! And I hope these people are never allowed to watch a game again, no room for it at any club!"

Further support was shown to Brown from around the West Midlands footballing world.

Jason Lanns, manager of Brown's former club Romulus FC, said: "Well done Adam Harrison for making people aware and well done Atherstone Town for dealing with it.

"No place for racism."

Manager of Redditch United, Matt Clarke, said: "Well done for keeping your head Tyreace.

"Positive that the club have reacted in a positive manner.

"No place for racism, full stop."

On the pitch, the match finished 0-0, earning City their first point in their Midlands Football League Premier Division campaign.

Manager Tim Harris was pleased with the result against a "really strong" Atherstone side.

He said: “I thought the lads looked solid, we’ve competed all over the park.

“I said to them if we’re not going to win, then we have got to get something out of it and I’ve got to give everyone credit because I thought they put a right shift in today.”
