A popular vegan cafe in Worcester's city centre has temporarily closed its doors.

Be The Change said its closure is only planned to last for two weeks "through nobody's fault".

However, it said it could not give any more information on the closure or an exact date when the New Street cafe and restaurant would reopen.

A spokesperson for Be The Change said: "We're very sorry to all of you who will be affected by our closure for the next two weeks.

"We're also sorry that we can't give you more details at this stage.

"We're so grateful for all of your custom and loyalty, and ideally you deserve more information than we're able to give at the moment.

"In short, things have been very tough lately.

"Some things we've been able to grin and bear; some we've not been able to; added to this, in the last couple of days, a couple of factors have taken matters out of our hands, meaning we have no choice but to temporarily close, through nobody's fault.

"Essential, time-sensitive emails will be responded to, but otherwise communication will be resumed upon re-opening.

"Thank you for all of your kindness and support recently.

"The love you send to our hearts will always outweigh the hardships."

Be the Change recently closed its Cornmarket cafe down and moved all of its services to its restaurant in New Street.

Be The Change opened the cafe in Worcester's Cornmarket in 2018 and opened a second venue, a restaurant, on New Street in 2021.

However, the owners have now made the decision to combine both the cafe and restaurant at 15 New Street instead of keeping them as separate establishments.

Co-owner Anthony Chesher said: "Our plan is for Be The Change to continue providing the fabulous people of Worcester with delicious vegan food and drink all year around.

"We've chosen not to renew our lease on our Cornmarket venue; a new lease would have been a three to five-year commitment and, bearing in mind the events of the last few years, we thought it was safer to consolidate our services into the one, larger venue at 15 New Street.

"We used to run all of our services from one site for the first three years of Be The Change and it worked really well, so it feels a bit like the good old days again."
